The need for a sports hall and a community area is very evident on the island. The purpose of this project was to create an area that would cater for sports for the school as well as provide a social area for community and traditional activities such as music and dancing. Activities which are synonymous with rural Irish communities.

T he challenge of the project was dealing with the scale of such a project and integrating it with the existing fabric of the island. The project consists of a sports hall and a community area linked together by the changing facilities with a public terrace above. This terrace extends the existing public space to provide a connection to the new project. The project acts as a link between the existing school buildings, between which there exists a degree of separation at present.
