The sporting facilities give a reason for prospective students to come to the area. The challenge for the project was to integrate accommodation and a sporting activity together, in different locations or to combine them to create a living and sporting complex. The project is to be built over time, allowing for the community to develop a relationship with both the new sporting areas and the incoming occupants of the accommodation.
One of the complexes was developed in detail over the course of the project. The complex consisted of a basketball court with accommodation built around it. The complex was to integrate with the existing urban landscape and had various public gathering spaces on the ground floor. The ground plan is open on three sides with the fourth accommodating the changing and team areas. The units interact with both the playing area and one another. The relationship between unit and playing area is a unique one, and the one that defines the complex.
